President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday Tanzanian Foreign Minister Bernard Membe.
The Tanzanian Minister opened the meeting by conveying greetings from the President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of Tanzania to President al-Assad, as well as his appreciation of Syria's steadfastness in the face of the attempts to curb it from its stances committed to the Arab right and the just solutions to the Arab-Israeli Conflict.
The bilateral relations and prospects of developing them in all fields, especially on the political and economic levels, were dealt with during the meeting.
Both sides also discussed the importance of enhancing cooperation between Syria and Tanzania in the fields of agriculture, industry and education in the interest of both friendly countries and peoples.
Minister Membe pointed out to the role the African Union plays in finding solutions to the problems faced by countries of the region as well as the importance of coordination and cooperation between the African and Arab countries for the good of the peoples in both regions.
President al-Assad expressed desire for strengthening relations with the African countries with which Syria is connected by historical ties, common suffering and economic interests.
The meeting was attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, Presidential Political and Media Advisor Buthaina Shaaban, Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mikdad and the Tanzanian accompanying delegation.
